Drainage condition survey & location mapping

Why locate, trace, inspect & document drainage assets

Risk management is the key driver for site drainage and utility surveys and mapping. Whether you are buying or selling a site, pre-construction or handover, you should consider a drainage survey to protect your organisation from claims for damage to drainage.

Many organisations have partial or no information, about their drainage systems. This becomes a problem when:

  • Flooding occurs causing down time while the fault is located
  • Your site has pollution risks and the Environment Agency expects you to avoid discharge to water courses - a foreseeable risk

Waterflow's experience across a range of sectors and building, estate, and asset types enables us to advise you on the best value survey solution for your business.

What is a site drainage survey

The elements depend on the purpose of your survey, they could include:

  • Locate existing plans / OS maps etc
  • Full site topographic survey
  • Flood risk assessment
  • Utility survey & mapping
  • Document drainage asset inventory
  • Produce schematic or full topographical CAD drawings
  • Identify & tag manholes, survey for hidden manholes
  • Inspect manholes & record levels, chamber condition, number & size of connections, system type, flow levels & direction
  • Photograph chamber defects, CCTV survey pipe runs & prove connectivity

What are the deliverables from a drainage survey

Your reason for the survey drives our deliverables. As a matter of course you will receive a CAD drawing, plan or schematic and all the schedules, reports, videos and photographs produced. Some clients like their data in a structured file to enable upload into an asset management system, others prefer a meeting and an overview presentation.

Where appropriate we will offer you maintenance, repair and system upgrade advice free of charge. It is always difficult to balance reactive maintenance, planned maintenance and capital expenditure. Waterflow will work with you to determine the best approach to fit your asset management strategy.

For some clients we provide a full drainage management service. The survey forms the back bone of our management plan, enabling accurate reporting, fast location of assets and activity plotting to identify defect hot spots.  This drives planned maintenance, capital works programmes and allows monitoring of ROI.
